How do I get a Contour Account?

Qualified adults 18 years of age or older can get a Contour account online at www.usbankcontour.com or at any U.S. Bank branch location.

Do I need a credit card or checking account to open a Contour account?

No, you can get a Contour Primary Account card at any U.S. Bank branch location or online through the Express Setup without a credit card or checking account. Express Setup is the fastest way to get access to a single Contour card. The enrollment fee is charged to your Contour account. You can then add money to your account to start spending. If you want to add more cards later, you may do so online after the first time you’ve added money to your account.

If you want to choose a card color other than blue or order additional cards right away, you can use the Contour account builder. You will need a credit or debit card to check out using this option – we accept Visa and MasterCard. During checkout using the builder, you can add money to your Contour account from your credit or debit card at no fee (there is usually a charge for loading from a credit or debit card). We always run credit and debit card charges through like purchases, not cash advances.

What fees are associated with this card?

Visit our Fees page to view all account and transaction fees that may apply to your Contour account.

What should I do after I receive the card?

To begin using your card, you must activate it first. Log in to your online account at www.usbankcontour.com or call Contour Customer Support at 1-855-209-8388.

How do I get my PIN?

If you activate your card online, you will select your 4-digit PIN during activation. If you activate your card over the phone, your pre-assigned PIN will be spoken to you. Your PIN can be changed immediately if you wish. If you ever forget your PIN, call 1-855-209-8388 and select option 6 to hear your PIN.

My card says “Valued Customer” – how do I get a card with my name on it?

If you purchased your Contour card in a U.S. Bank branch, it says “Valued Customer.” A personalized card will be automatically mailed to you after you add money to your account four times.

What should I do if my card is lost or stolen?

Call Contour Customer Support at 1-855-209-8388 immediately if you are sure your card is lost or stolen.

What is Direct Deposit?

Direct Deposit allows employers and others to make electronic deposits right into your account.

How do I set up Direct Deposit for my Contour account?

It's simple. To automatically deposit your payroll check, contact your employer and request a Direct Deposit form. You can also find the form on the Contour website. Complete and return the form to your employer for processing. For government or Social Security checks, contact the Social Security Administration at 800-772-1213 or visit the Social Security Direct Deposit website to submit the information online.

How long does it take for Direct Deposit to take effect?

Depending on your employer or other income source, it could take a few days or up to a month for Direct Deposit to be loaded on your Contour account.

Are there other ways to add money to my card?

In addition to Direct Deposit, there are several ways to add money to your card:

  • Visit any U.S. Bank branch to add cash to your card.
  • Save up to 2 funding accounts online at www.usbankcontour.com to add money to your card:

    • One U.S. Bank checking or savings account can be saved – adding money from this account type are free, but will take 3-5 days to become available in your Contour account.
    • Up to 2 credit or debit cards can be saved – fees to add money do apply, but funds are available immediately on your Contour account.
  • Add money at any Visa® ReadyLink location.

How do I verify my checking account as a funding account?

After you set up your U.S. Bank checking or savings account as a funding account, you must be verified as the owner of that account before it can be used to load money to your Contour card. This one-time process is for your security and may take several days to complete.

Within 3-5 banking days, two small test deposits and withdrawals will be been made to your bank account. Log into your bank account online or look at your bank account statement to view these transactions (the description will say ““USB Contour Trial Deposit”). Write down the amounts – you will need them to verify your bank account.

Next, log in to your Contour account. From the dashboard, select your primary card to access the Account Summary page, then select Manage Funding Accounts under the Add Money menu. Click the link to validate your funding account and enter the two deposit amounts to complete the process. Once verified, you can request a load from this bank account, which may take 3-5 days to become available in your Contour account.

If you have any questions, you can always call us at 1-855-209-8388.

Expand all questions

What is a Sub Account?

A Sub Account allows you to get another card that can be opened in your name or someone else’s name, but is owned and managed by you. Use Sub Accounts for personal budgeting, to give independence to teens, or for spending by another person on your behalf (like a nanny, caregiver, contractor, etc.). The Primary Account owner can see all transactions made on a Sub Account, and can transfer money to the Sub Account in real time.

What if a Sub Account cardholder tries to make a purchase but has insufficient funds?

That purchase will be denied, but the card will not be overdrawn. Any transfer you make to replenish the funds on that card will be made available immediately.

Can my teen get a Contour card?

Any person who is 13 years or older is eligible to receive a Contour Sub Account card. A teen can also receive employer Direct Deposit into their Contour Sub Account, as long as the Primary Account holder turns on Direct Deposit during Sub Account setup.

Once I've transferred money to a Sub Account card, can I get it back?

Yes, but only if your Sub Account was set up with Direct Deposit turned OFF. To transfer money back to your Primary account from a Sub Account, start at your Dashboard and click on the +$ icon on your Primary card, then select your Sub Account from the "Load From" dropdown and complete your transfer. From the Account Summary page, select the +$ icon next to the account balance, or select Load Card from the Add Money dropdown.

If your Sub Account was set up with Direct Deposit turned ON, money can be transferred from the Primary account, but not back. The Direct Deposit setting cannot change once the account has been established.
